In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate Assalaamu 'alaykum, * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The 4TH ANNUAL Ramadan Fast-A-Thon October 13, 2005 www.fast-a-thon.org Founded by the MSA, University of Tennessee - Knoxville Nationally Coordinated by MSA-National Dawah Task Force Endorsed by Sheikh Muhammad Nur Abdullah (ISNA President), Imam Zaid Shakir, Sheikh Abdullah Idris Ali, Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, and others * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Alhamdulillah, MSA National is pleased to announce the kick-off of your *favorite* fall semester event: the 4TH ANNUAL RAMADAN FAST-A-THON!! One of the most successful national student programs in recent history, the Fast-a-thon has grown each year: last year, another record breaking number of campuses (over 150!) participated to support local soup kitchens and emergency food shelters. This year, we are encouraging MSAs that are able to please donate to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We have all seen the devastating effect that the hurricane and resulting floods have had on the gulf region of the U.S.. The greatest brunt of the impact has fallen on those who are less fortunate, serving as a grim reminder of the pervasiveness of poverty in America. This is an excellent opportunity for Muslim students to demonstrate their concern for the issues that affect our nation and our desire to help the people affected by this tragic event. Through the Fast-a-thon, students have the opportunity to teach non-Muslims about Islam, exemplifying values of compassion and charity by actively striving to eliminate hunger and homelessness in their communities and across our continent. More about the program: Local MSA chapters encourage the non-Muslim students of their respective universities to attempt the fast for one day. For each student that pledges to, local business sponsors donate $1 or more to a local emergency food provider. The goal is to encourage hundreds of students on each campus to fast, thereby raising at least the same amount, in dollars, from each MSA. At the conclusion of the fast, students are invited to break their fasts together with a meal prepared by the MSA and/or the local Muslim community. To help you in your planning process, we have put together a complete Toolkit, available to those MSA that register to participate in the event, that contains a collection of checklists and information on how to handle the various aspects of the Fast-a-thon. The program was, by Allah's Grace, an immense success across the US and Canada for the past THREE years!! Register TODAY to host a Fast-a-thon on your campus!
